Since 1970, I have been teaching English in grades 7-12 in both Middle and High School. My teaching has encompassed helping students become proficient in both writing and reading skills. Teaching in Denver has challenged me to work effectively with students having limited English proficiency as well as learning disabilities, but I enjoy working with all students!
My strength as a teacher is in using scaffolding to help students gain confidence as a learner. What that essentially means is that I provide a great deal of support and modeling to students learning new skills and concepts. Gradually, as they become more advanced in learning, I remove those supports so they are performing more independently.
