I generally use the Socratic method of teaching. It has a tendency to require the student to get involved in the learning process. it goes back to the theory that if you provide them a fish you eat for the day, teach them to fish and they eat forever. Although, if this is not successful, I have learned that students can learn, but some in different ways. I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. I believe all students can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am a first year Doctoral student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I was a TA last semester for the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, and I have six semesters of TA experience from Cornell University in the departments of Communication, History, Asian Studies, and Near Eastern Studies.
I am interested in this position both because I enjoy teaching and I have a strong interest in international communities. I spent a portion of last year in South Asia conducting fieldwork for my thesis and realized just how much capital language has in the social arena. A Little Bit About Me...

I volunteer for HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) every year. This program pushes facilitation, which is what I strive to do. I like to try to facilitate and push my students to ask questions and talk to me as a peer. I always try to give at least three compliments to every criticism because students are often too hard on themselves. For some reason, most of the students I have worked with have had an English teacher along the line who has made them feel "stupid." It is amazing what boosting confidence can do! I like to understand where students are coming from and what their specific needs are so I can address them in a way that best fits their learning style and experiences.
