A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in a play-based approach to teaching new concepts. My approach to teaching is to generate excitement over learning, which I believe helps cement ideas in young children’s heads. In my early literacy lessons, I play games like "The 3 Strikes Game" or "Backwards Hangman" to reinforce phonics skills. The students enjoy the opportunity to beat me by making strong sound-letter connections. I have experience teaching drama to all different age groups and I use drama games and experiences in my pre-K classroom. When we learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the bus boycotts, we act out the experiences of the people in that situation, giving my students a unique understanding of their circumstances. I believe that we all learn better one way versus another but it does not negate the many ways of learning as well. Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles.
