A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school student, I attended Tiffin University to gain college experience and credit earlier than expected. After graduating from Clyde High school, I went on to Ohio State Mansfield, where I majored in psychology and special education. I am currently a full time student at Ashford University online. I am studying to become an advocate for special needs persons and children. I have been tutoring students professtionally for the past year. I specialize in reading and math. I have experience with k-12. I am also comfortable with special needs and developmental disabilities.
My teaching style is basic. I feel it is most important for a student to grasp the basics before they can move on to more complicated subject material. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level. The methods of teaching I was instructed when I obtained my Bachelor in Education at the University of Akron Ohio, from 1989-1991, was the following Integrated, Whole language approach and Montessori. The method we were instructed to use in the Akron city school system was Integrated which uses basic and whole language approach language Arts. These integrated units allow us the opportunity to make sure children are learning relevant information and applying that knowledge to real life scenarios. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students learn best when they are involved in the process. Therefore I like to put students in charge of their learning-whether it is presenting information gathered for a presentation or helping to develop the topics that will be discussed in a particular unit; as long as they are involved and not passive in the process students will learn. I believe it is my job to act as a guide not a dictator in a students education.
Currently, I hold a bachelor of history degree and I am working on obtaining teacher licensure at the Masters level in curriculum and instruction: AYA social studies.
