Teaching is an art that needs to be perfected based on each individual child’s needs. I am a very demanding teacher, but at the same time always fair and give positive reinforcement while the student is learning and of course, when they have obtained their goals. I teach using a variety of strategies, but feel that hands on learning works best for most students, especially those in a tutoring atmosphere. My teaching style ultimately depends of the student. I work much better with an individual or small group than with a class because I can find the angle that works best for each student. For younger children, I like to make learning into different games to keep their attention. For older students, I think it is important to establish some level of confidence early on within a subject so that they do not get too discouraged while new material is presented.
