My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Highly skilled in the use of Article of the Week as a means of demonstrating steps to achieve reading comprehension.

I have 15 years of experience teaching students at all ages and all ability levels. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Teaching. I am certified and highly qualified to teach English and History at the 6-12 grade level (and college). I am also certified and highly qualified to teach students with Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities. A great deal of my teaching career has been spent educating students in lock-down juvenile detention settings. I built my reputation on the fact that I take the jobs many other teachers find too challenging. In addition to teaching I also have a background in professional broadcasting and news writing.

I am passionalte about writing and have taught in K-12 for over 10 years. I have vast experience teaching writing at both high school and college level. I currently teach Composition classes at our local community college. I understand what is required of students to be successful in both high school and college. A Little Bit About Me...

For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. In my role as a teacher consultant, I adapted materials so the students could understand it. If chosen as a tutor, I would do the same so the students would learn at their education level.
I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. To be honest I have no experience in teaching outside of the college setting. The two years marked denotes my two years in upper division English classes at SVSU where student critiquing was the norm. Beyond helping my friends with their papers I took several classes on teaching and as such have academic experience, but not real world (ie K-12) experience. I have been in several writing workshops that cover a variety of English facets from research writing to creative writing to poetry. This spanned the second two years of my college career. I have also written stories of my own and had them critiqued by teachers and students, so I know firsthand what frustrations can result.
