The most effective methods for teaching math to any students level is to make it relevant, connect math content to every days' life. We use math everyday and yet most of our youngster don't even realize that, especially when it comes to higher math level like calculus or even algebra. The basic foundation math skill is add/subtract/multiply/and divide and this essential skill must be mastered by the time you complete your 5th grade level. While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then. I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance.

Algebra II was my strongest subject in school and I completed it with a 100% average I acquired my tutoring experience teaching my classmates a few lessons of math classes here and there in subjects like pre-algebra, both algebra I and II, and pre-calculus. I tutor mostly in math, but am also available for a few other subjects as well. I like to tutor one on one with the student. It seems to make them more comfortable when asking questions. Also, it gives me a chance to deal specifically with the problems they are experiencing in the subject. Recently, I have taken a college algebra class and a business calculus class, both of which I maintained an A in. I have a little tutoring experience from junior high.
