My recent personal experiences have helped me to develop a heightened sense of compassion and an appreciation for teaching. When I volunteered to teach Mathematics and Business Studies (Commerce, Accounting and Economics) in the summer of 2008 in St. Patrick High School in Kenya, I learned to appreciate the teacher’s experience. As part of being a natural speaker, I love communicating with people on several different levels of communication. I always try and determine what works best for the student in order for them to learn the subject material like illustrations, reading the textbook, or using a computer-based program. I also like to use example problems to reinstate the concept ideas of the materials. Some students learn by example and repetition, while some need hands-on activities in order to process the main concept and remember it.
