The instructor must become one with the student and understand them on their level. Once you can see eye to eye with your students, then you can begin to help them learn and grow. I think the best way to teach is to try to find examples that my students will relate to when it comes to instruction. Students can have very different life experiences, which can help, or hinder, their ability to learn certain subjects. My role is to help those students that have difficulty with understanding certain subjects to work with them to come to an understanding of the material, and learn from it.
