I have an unparalleled amount of patience.

My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. In my college career, I found myself teaching people everything from music to proper uses of tense/grammar. It was there that i learned that you really only learn a small fraction of what you need to help you in life in the classroom. The rest must be learned on your own or with some one-on-one counseling. I know that any information can possibly be simplified and made clearer with a little time and attention to towards looking at the bigger picture or basic concept.
The roles of the teacher and student are one in the same. I go into teaching knowing that I am not the end all shepherd of information but I am going to give all I can at being as clear, c ... read more

I integrate as many subjects as possible and seek to provide the missing schema, background experience and knowledge, that is critical to learning to a true state of understanding and mastery. Every subject is interesting to a child who can understand it and apply it. Through an understanding of social styles, learning styles, multiple intelligences and the best of brain-based research, I provide that experience to every student.
My last class was a self-contained 6th grade, with a 34% ELL and 14% special education population. My class average reading level rose from 4.6 to 7.1. Of all the students in the school who surpassed the required State testing and higher District goals in both reading and math, 75% came from my class, as did the winners of the school's essay contest, spelling bee and geography competition. My first career was in medicine where I gave direct car ... read more

I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a mathematics major from Northern State University at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Being a continual learner, I also completed a broadfield science endorsement in Montana. Twelve years teaching experience has given me extensive opportunities teaching secondary mathematics and science to various cultures in Alaska, Montana, and South Dakota. As a culturally sensitive teacher, I have dealt with many learning styles in a patient manner. As a graduate instructor at Eastern Washington University at Cheney, Washington, I have also taught college level algebra.
To listen is to learn; this goes hand-in-hand with asking questions. In order to learn, one has to process information at his own pace. Questions are sometimes more important than answers. I also believe a seed can be planted along the way. In other words, as one procee ... read more

As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning. I have also home schooled my children. I teach violin and piano out of the home and have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools with ESL and teaching early morning Spanish courses. I enjoy working with children and have taught children ages 4-12 in church for many years.
I love to experience the thrill of success as a child begins to understand. I enjoy seeing their confusion transform into understanding. I believe children have brilliant minds that just need to be directed or focused in a way that incorporates their frame of reference. I have seen how children become excited with learning as th ... read more

Since graduating from college with BS degrees in physical science, chemistry, and environmental education, I have taught math (basic through pre-calculus) and science (biology, chemistry, physics, life science, physical science) 5th through 12th grade in both private and public schools. I worked two years at a Sylvan Learning Center as a Lead Teacher (and Director of Education) in almost all of their programs (Writing, Academic Reading, General Math, Algebra, Geometry, and SAT prep). In the last seven years, I have had my own part-time business tutoring and working with clients who have learning disabilities.
I try to match my teaching style and content to the interests and learning style of the individual. My varied background allows me to integrate subjects and give examples of applications, which makes topics more relevant to the student. I believe that respect, patience, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a junior and senior finance major, I routinely tutored fellow classmates in several finance and business courses. As a junior I showed many of my classmates how to excel in several areas of business, such as, finance, accounting, human resources, and management. As a senior I tutored many of my friends and colleagues in many finance courses, such as, portfolio management, financial engineering, and personal finance. I've never tutored for pay, which shows how dedicated I am to helping people achieve their academic goals.
My teaching style is very simple, it's teaching people the concepts at hand in a manner they can understand, because some texts and instructions can be very confusing and over explained. I enjoy making complex concepts seem easy to my students and love to watch them apply them to any problem. Once, I get my students thinking in the right manner they can solv ... read more

Although I have graduated, I still see myself as a student still learning. I take that with me when I teach fellow students. I try to make it an experience where we are all learning something together. This prevents me from just telling someone what to learn, instead it shows someone how to learn. During my years in high school I struggled. At one point my GPA fell below a 2.0. I learned how to bounce back by improving study habits and hard work and ended up graduating college with biology degree with a 4.0 GPA. I share this because I can relate to the struggles of school and I have the tools to help overcome that struggle. I want to share these tools with others. Anyone can be successful in school and I am an example of that.
I am a recent graduate with straight A’s from Lewis-Clark State College with a major in Biology. I took many classes in math to receive my degree. ... read more

My teaching style is based around being able to adapt to the individual student(s) and help them overcome their areas of improvement. The goal of a good tutor should not just be to get their students finish their assignments, but to help the students understand the fundamentals of whatever discipline they are studying. This MUST be a significant sphere of focus because students need a good foundation to continue their academic progression. Giving students the belief that they can understand any academic concept as long as they stay focus keeps them engaged in the overall educational process. Moreover, students that already have a firm grasp on the field of study learn to do it more efficiently and enhance their knowledge/creativity on the subject matter.
I have tutored others ever since I can remember helping out my peers. Teachers believed that I had an ability of not just und ... read more
