I believe teaching should be preparation for the real world outside of school. For that reason I strive to make all assignments relevant, meaningful, and useful to the students. I try to fuel motivation by making the assignments fun and purposeful. I hold students to a high standard as preparation for future jobs (no late work, no coming in to class late, etc.) I believe every student can be reached, but that all students are at different levels and require their own amount of one-on-one help, motivation, challenge, and dedication. A Little Bit About Me...

Having graduated with a degree in elementary education, I have learned the variety of students' learning styles and know how to target each child's unique style of learning. With a strong background in reading, English, and history throughout high school and college courses, I have been able to use engaging activities and multiple strategies to tutor and teach others. Foreign languages come easy to me as well, and I have particular interest in German and Spanish. When I volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club during college, I spent one-on-one time with students who needed help with their homework and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I first must one hundred percent become knowledgeable and comfortable with the material I will be teaching. I enjoy being able to personalize myself not only with the work but the students as well. My strongest subject is algebra (commutative, homological, or abstract). My degree is in general mathematics so I experienced most forms of mathematics at a high college level. I began tutoring as a freshman in high school. Professionally, I have spent ten years in management in four different industries. I have been told that I explain things well.
1) Give the person you are turtoring an opportunity to tell you where they are having a problem. 2) While working through problems monitor the person you are tutoring to see if there are other problems. 3) Suggest changes. Never force them. There isn't one correct way. Make a suggestion on how to improve and explain why you are making the suggestion. 4) Do multiple versions of a similar problem.
