I believe that good learning is based in appreciating the value of the subject matter, and when I teach I strive to make the material relevant to the student. Even students with great willpower do not learn very effectively when they are not interested in the material. I also teach with analogies and comparisons. People learn best by seeing similarities and differences between new concepts and concepts they are familiar with. Even the most difficult concepts can become clear when illuminated by good analogies and comparisons.
