My teaching style is flexible depending upon the needs of my student(s). Some students have disabilities that make drilling or repetition styles of teaching and tutoring difficult and tiresome, while other thrive on it. Others need hands on learning opportunities and problems to work through on their own. Regardless of the student’s need, I am a tenacious teacher. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching. I earned my Degree at BYU-Idaho where I majored in Math and minored in Health. While in college I taught some lower level math classes. I went on to work at a year round school working with troubled teens. I was able to learn many different teaching strategies to work with different personalities.
I have been able to develop a great teacher-student relationship of mutual respect and trust. I like to get to know the students learning style so I can adjust my teaching strategy to better fit them. When I was younger I had a really tough time with my speech and with my reading/comprehension. I went through school constantly having to work slower and harder than most students in my class. I was so determined to get better at my learning disabilities that I decided to go to a tutor. With the extra great help and assistance I was able to catch up to most students in my class and continued to excel throughout grade school. A Little Bit About Me...

A proverb I once heard best describes my teaching philosophy: "Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I become." Thus, my goal as a tutor is to help students discover for themselves. That way learning becomes not only more engaging, but more lasting as well.
After graduating from Utah State, I taught 2nd grade for a year at a charter school. It was a good experience, but I wanted the chance to work with students in a variety of settings. During the past school year, I was hired as the Spanish Specialist at another charter school which has been another great experience. A Little Bit About Me...

In the past 7 years I have had the opportunity through tutoring to help students from kindergarten through college exceed in math at various levels. Earning a BA in Mandarin Chinese has helped me to really learn what it means to work hard and a variety of other skills. As a former English major and editing minor at Brigham Young University I helped many students write and edit research and English papers. Along the way I also had the opportunity to edit an engineering Master's thesis. I have tutored in paper writing in various subjects as well as specifically tutoring in creative writing. I have worked with and on over thirty papers. I work very well one-on-one with students and am able to explain and teach what is necessary for better papers for the present and for the future. Here I have earned 20 credit hours of Japanese with an A- average. I am not fluent but I am very good.
