I have extended experience teaching spanish to english-speaking kids in Costa Rica (Centro bilingue de educacion infantil Educarte- Saint Joseph) 2009-2012. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am a certified (NIC) American Sign Language interpreter. I have been actively involved and working within the Deaf community for about 10 years.

For the past seven years I have worked full time as a job coach at Lexington Center for the Deaf Vocational Services Center in Jackson Heights, NY. I also volunteered in their Independent Living Center for two years prior to my employment with them. In 2010 I was a private tutor for a neighborhood adolescent, teaching him basic sign language to better help him communicate with his family, as he is unable to use his voice. I do enjoy helping anyone write a well developed and educated paper on the topic at hand. My specific style of teaching, especially for the 8th grade, is to read the current book being used, and then present my lesson with lecture, interactive discussion and comprehension, based on the age and grade of the student. I like to put the lesson into terms that the age group can relate to, and then assign a memory technique that will teach the students to recall the proper answer by using the examples we have discussed in class. That is the same method that I use myself when I need to write a paper. I read it, analyze it, comprehend it, and then write a paper based on what I can relate it too. I believe that there is no one standardized method to teach, rather each individual is unique in their learning abilities. Therefore, while teaching I often gauge how a student is reacting to the lesson they are being taught. Once I have determined what the best teaching strategy is for that individual, I like to write down in detail what steps were taken to reach that solution.
