Guitar is one of my top subjects! I have extensive studies in classical and jazz guitar, as well as musical composition. I performed professionally on guitar, keyboards, and electric bass. I also have an MM degree in music.

As a Spanish teacher, I have an MA in Spanish, and have worked as a Spanish teacher at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. I have additionally worked as a Spanish translator and interpreter in the legal, academic, and medical areas. I know the value of knowing more than one language, as I have traveled in many different parts of the world, and have personally experienced the benefits of being able to communicate with people in their own language when travelling.
When working with students one-on-one, I try to find out exactly where the next step needed for the student to progress would be, and then work to achieve an understanding of the foundational material that needs to be understood and applied to achieve success, and then move on from there.

Guitar is one of my top subjects! Experience teaching guitar for 8+ years. All levels welcome!

I believe that learning repertoire that the student is interested in is the fastest way to develop a passion for music. Positive encouragement is key, and I believe the teachers' job is to guide their students in what they want to do. Developing technical proficiency and understanding the emotions and intent of the music is the foundation of my teaching style.

A Little Bit About Me...

My BS in Civil Engineering provided me with an extensive education of advanced Mathematics such as Calculus, Dynamics, Physics, and Statics. I worked for 10 years in the field which included design of subdivisions, site condominiums, and other developments. Correspondence between review engineers on projects required proper writing and grammatical skills. Since October of 2009,I have worked part-time for a Metro Detroit tutoring agency. Subjects include Math, Science, English, and ACT test preparation.
Patience and flexibility are the keys. You can't explain a concept the same way to each student and expect each one will understand. Some students need extra time to grasp the material so it's important not to progress unless there's certainty of complete comprhension. Encouragement is also necessary which will build their confidence, and a confident student is a better one.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've always enjoyed the art of communicating complicated material to those who are just learing or don't quite "get it". My focus is to break things down into basic elements and achieve agreement. Then, support learning with repetition. For example: "Would you agree that if we add 5 and 5 and then another 5 that we would end up at 15?" "So, then, 5 added together three times equals 15, right?" I'm also a big fan of mindmapping for education, so I tend to use it when I lecture at college, and I encourage my students to use it as a visual recall tool.
Fifteen years corporate training experience. I feel that I have much aptitude and empathy for students’ successful endeavors in the classroom and I will do my part in making sure that my lessons will be integrated, promote creative thinking, and help the students develop decision- making skills. Social interaction will be used because it is an important aspect of life but individuality will be stressed so that the students learn to be leaders not followers. The concept of being proud of yourself and your beliefs but being aware of other peoples’ beliefs will be used to teach respect for each other and create positive self-esteem in each student.

As an undergrad, I worked as a tutor in mathematics, which gave me great experience in dealing with varied learning styles. This experience strongly informed my approach to the classroom as a graduate teaching assistant and, later, as an adjunct instructor. I also have a great deal of experience with a wide variety of computer hardware and software. In addition to my primary academic focus, I am a musician; I studied classical guitar as an undergraduate, and have played and written music for the guitar for more than ten years. Over the years, my experience has shown me that I not only excel at but very much enjoy teaching/tutoring others in fundamental guitar technique and basic music theory as it relates to the guitar.
My approach begins with a clearly mapped out plan of study for the term of the course. The course syllabus, dictionary of examples, and external references must be ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored with the Writing Fellows every Thursday at Schoolcraft College when I was working towards my Associate's in Liberal Arts. I helped students write and edit their papers. The primary focus was English but there were a few Social Studies/History students thrown in there. I graduated in April 2009 from Eastern Michigan University with my Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media and Film with a Minor in Creative Writing.
I would usually look the paper over and point out problems with grammar and spelling and tell the student why they weren't working. I believe in the mantra "show, don't tell" when it comes to teaching. I'm pretty laid back and willing to work at whatever pace the student is comfortable with. I don't move on until I feel both of us are on the same page. I think the history of the English language has a lot of really interesting trivia.
