I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I use the Orton- Gilingham multi sensory approach.

I Have worked for the Davis County School district for 12 years. The last few years I have been working intervention for students who are not performing at grade level. I have learned that not all kids can learn the way they are taught in school. My 8 year old is dyslexic. I Have studied the Orton-Gilingham multisensory approach to reading and spelling. I have also learned to engage children in activities that are fun and creative. I will not be doing the same teaching style as there school.

I had students who were mostly visual learners and needed everything written down or printed on handouts; I had students who were mainly auditory learners and needed to have everything said to them, sometimes two or even three times in different ways. I think that it is important to find the types of learning that each student finds easiest to understand, and tailor the course so that it works well with their particular learning abilities. This can easily be done in a classroom setting as well as an individual basis. In either case, while I am teaching I think that it is important to understand the topic we are on before moving to the next one. Slowing down to completely grasp each idea helps students to gain confidence in their learning ability, and actually helps the classroom or individual to progress much faster overall. I have yet to complete my senior year of studies at the University but I will be done by Spring 2011. I am working towards my first Bachelors Degree, BS in Physics and will continue with school after until I get my MS in Chemical Engineering. Physics and Chemistry have always come easy to me and I know that because of this I can help others understand these sometimes tougher subjects easier.
My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors.
