A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in Howard Garner's theory of teaching to the student style of learning. They are as follows: Visual, Auditory, Musical, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. As I work with the student and get to understand their abilities and limitations I develop a style that will work the best for that particular student.
I have worked with students of all grade levels from volunteering at the Cocopah Head Start preschool to working with high school students as a substitute teacher. I have an English as a Second Language endorsement and have worked with adults in improving the English level. I excell in creative writing and am currently assisting friends in obtaining their GED.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience working as an instructional aide at Kofa High School from 10/03-5/05. Motivated children that had mental and behavioral problems. Tutored teenagers with school work and helped out teachers to grade homework. (Ages 15-18)
I enjoy teaching children especially teenagers. I enjoy setting a positve role model for them and for them to help each other on math subjects, reading, etc. I have volunteer respite program when I worked at Arizonas Children Association and have experience working as social worker in Behavioral health. I sit with students and ask them what they are having trouble with. I will then explain to them and make it as clear as possible so they can understand better the subject they are having trouble with. Once done with my explanation, I will have them work out problems to show me they really understand the subject. It is very important to be patient with every student because some are fast learners and some are slow learners. Depending how much the student is struggling, I will dedicate my time and make sure students fully understand everything they are required to learn.

In May of 2004 I graduated from a small liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington. I majored in English with an emphasis in writing. The writing curriculum I followed consisted of writing personal essays, articles, short fiction and even writing for children. Additionally, I wrote several research reports. Research for my Masters Degree required a lengthy detailed dissertation which turned out to consist of four chapters and about forty pages. I have had to practice my grammar, spelling and sentence structur this past year as an English teacher here in Yuma. Education is very important to me. Just recently, I have graduated with honors and magna cum laude from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.
