A Little Bit About Me...

Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I had the privilege of being employed as a special education teacher. In 2005, I resigned my teaching position to open my own licensed home daycare facility. During this time, I was the sole operator and administrator of Haneline Family Daycare. I am currently completing my master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University to obtain a K-12 endorsement as a reading specialist. My training in the areas of literacy assessment and intervention design will allow me to effectively assist struggling readers to overcoming their various reading difficulties.

As a teacher for the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, I had the privilege of working with students, age 3 to 21, who had significant cognitive impairments, and occasionally other disabilities such as autism and physically impairments. I retired in June after 32 years. My experience with students involved instruction in all areas of development, including functional academics, communication, social, community, employment, and daily living skills.
I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual. My teaching style has defiantly evolved over the years working with a wide variety of students and learning styles. I have learned that each student is unique, and should not be underestimated simply because of a diagnosis or so called disability. I do my best to approach each student s learning style with an open mind and a wide range of possible strategies and tools. My goal as an educator is to ensure that a student reaches her or his potential and beyond.
