Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I had the privilege of being employed as a special education teacher. In 2005, I resigned my teaching position to open my own licensed home daycare facility. During this time, I was the sole operator and administrator of Haneline Family Daycare. I am currently completing my master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University to obtain a K-12 endorsement as a reading specialist. My training in the areas of literacy assessment and intervention design will allow me to effectively assist struggling readers to overcoming their various reading difficulties.
I believe that the process of reading has identifiable components. I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. While with the Ohio Air National Guard, participated in the Mentoring program with Township Elementary, Swanton Local Schools for five(5)-years.
