I am a native Italian speaker, and for this reason I think that I am aware of every part of the language. I love helping students, and I want them to accomplish their goals. - Currently working in my College's tutoring center, which is allowing me to have a lot of experience in tutoring students academically. - 1 year experience tutoring friends and family for many purposes.
I work with students to find out which learning style is best for the individual. Some students learn easier with visual aids while some can pick up a lesson better with the hands on experience style and yet a third group will excel with auditory instruction. If at all possible all three styles should be implemented into the same lesson to give each type of learner the same advantage.

As such, I have been to Italy many times, not only on the tourist path, but off that beaten path: in my relatives' dining rooms, at their weddings and funerals, working in their fields harvesting grapes, etc. In college, I majored in Italian, even spending a semester in Rome. I tailor my teaching style to the student's needs. I can teach in the conventional, textbook format. I can teach in a less formal manner, I can prepare someone heading to Italy who needs a crash course in "street" Italian, and prepare one's expectations. I like it to be an interactive process, with a lot of verbal repetition on the student's part.

every student is different; as far as languages are concerned i believe people benefit more from actually speaking and listening, instead of learning a whole bunch of grammatical rules. those will come in time and a lot more naturally once you are confident with the words and their meaning.

I try to teach my students how to derive advanced formulas and results from basic ideas, instead of relying on rote memorization. According to my experience, students who memorize math results without understanding, do not actually retain information; the kind of learning that I offer is much more permanent.
I hold a Ph.D. in mathematics and a master in physics. I have been Assistant Professor at Columbia for the past four years. I have taught calculus 1 through 4 and Analysis 1/2 many times. My main area of expertise is Algebraic Geometry but I also have some experience in functional analysis and quantum mechanics.
