A Little Bit About Me...

As University of Minnesota Duluth graduate, I excelled in studies of math, physics, logic, critical thinking, and accounting. I earned two degrees: Bachelor of Accounting and Associate of Arts. I received a high excellence grade in math and physics courses and was preselected by math instructors to tutor any math course through Calculus I and to grade Calculus I and Math for Elementary School Teachers. In addition, I illustrated outstanding knowledge of English grammar skills.
I enjoy working with children. My volunteering experience with children at Grant Elementary gave me opportunity to realize how much I enjoy teaching. I believe that any child can meet his or her potential if he or she is given proper direct approach. I am also a mother of fourteen-year-old, eight-year-old, and one-year-old. These diversified children age groups allow me to have a clear understanding of educat ... read more

Teaching is a very important part of learning; it is an ongoing process that is active and not static. My style of teaching is less conventional than most at a large university due to my liberal arts undergraduate education. I think that many students learn different ways and it is important to let the learner control the learning process. As an instruct ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.
I tend to teach things in a visual way. Drawing pictures, diagrams and using visual aides are the best ways I have witnessed to teach kids. I also think a structured reward system is HUGE in motivating kids to succeed. You need to find o ... read more

More About This Tutor...

When tutoring I usually ask prompting questions to assist the person in working through a problem. By building off of the skills the student already has it helps them better understand the process. If a student is learning new material or does not understand the way something was explained I will try to come up with an alternative method. I will go through an example with them step by step ensuring that they understand what happens along the way. I try to relate problems to real life so that they will remember what they have learned better.
I have taken more than the amount of credits I need to graduate with a BA in mathematics from Luther College. I have minors in physics and chemistry. I have always enjoyed math. I have assisted an elementary school teacher in tutoring mathematics. I have assisted middle and high school aged children in learning mathematics when they have ... read more

As I work with my tutee, at first, I establish a friendly contact that could lead us towards a more effective tutoring session. I am a very friendly and kind person and I would love to work with students of different ages. I hope to create a relaxing environment to make my tutee feel more open and comfortable. I believe my primary responsibility as a tutor is to create independent learners. Tutors should, essentially, work themselves out of their job. I believe in it because once my tutee becomes independent, he or she reaches the top level in studying and understanding; at that point he or she might become a tutor too and help other students who struggle.
I am an international student and since I came to UMD tutoring and mentoring became my favorite occupation. I have been tutoring students in a variety of classes of different categories. My tutoring history starts in my high scho ... read more
