Reading is one of my top subjects! I worked as a teacher in a private school for children with dyslexia. My position was as a Language Fundamentals Teacher and I was trained using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. My comments on tutoring Reading : I'm a great speed reader with full comprehension of what I read, but I believe that even those who don't blaze through pages can learn how to pick up important details and their pace by learning how to focus on the material.

I'm a recent college graduate from NC State, with a degree in Creative Writing. However, the CW course instilled in me knowledge in a variety of fields from film to philosophy, and as a requirement of modern education made me more than just fluent in the language of computers. I'm a would-be author, and a writer of short stories, and have won an honorable mention in a few poetry contests. In college I was frequently asked by friends in less liberal majors for help in writing papers and getting ideas across, because while a Biology major dreads the 25 page research paper, the English major just shrugs and says "I just wrote like, three of those yesterday." I think that a lot of learning happens by students being actively engaged in what they are learning. I try to get/make hands on activities for students to learn.
