A Little Bit About Me...

As a young student in grade school I wanted to be a mathematics teacher. I pursued my goal and became that teacher. I have experience as a high school mathematics teacher for 5 years and adult education mathematics teacher for 22 years. Geometry and Trigonometry was taught to Tool and Die apprentices working towards their journeyman’s certificate. I instructed students in basic arithmetic to make them more knowledgeable doing computations. I enjoy working with students and helping them succeed. Down through the years I have done some tutoring.
I enjoy working with students and hope that my assistance will improve their mathematics skills and also have a better appreciation for it. I have more than 30 years experience working in many aspects of the Information Technology field. My job titles run the gamut of Application Programmer, System Programmer, System Analyst, Software Engineer, Department Manager, Director of IT, and IT Consultant. Industrywise, I’ve enjoyed working in Manufacturing, Distribution, Retail, Product Development, and Health Care. Also, I’ve had an avocation working with youth through the American Youth Soccer Organization as a coach, official, and administrator. Life moves fast, learn and enjoy as much as you can.

The next fall (2008), I was a substitute teacher for 4 months and then I was hired as a preschool teacher (in January of 2009). I taught as a preschool teacher for 10 months and then went back to substitute teaching (in October 2009) and have been substitute teaching since then. Both of my parents were teachers and I find myself sharing my knowledge with anyone who seems to need it. I have instructed the ladies in my craft group, answered questions posted online, and tried to instill some basic computer upkeep knowledge in the people who've asked me for help with their personal computers. I loved explaining the world to my children and I miss the joy and wonder of a child who has just understood something for the first time.

First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn.
