I believe that effective teaching is comprised of two necessary and related elements: knowledge of the content and ability to communicate it. Knowing the material is not enough to be effective in teaching it; likewise, communication skills won't work alone. Thus, I take care to understand the concepts I expect to cover and to make them understandable to the students. I organize my presentations with the student's learning in mind and keep my knowledge up to date. My teaching allows students to learn by doing by having them work on problems and cases that allow them to evaluate alternatives and to arrive at answers logically.
As a graduate in Business/Accounting and Management I have worked in financial management in corporate and higher education sectors for many years. During the summer I volunteered and taught classes in Upward Bound Programs to disadvantaged students in English, ... read more

As a Business Education teacher in the classroom, I also have experience with home based instruction for special education and working with at-risk middle school students in an after school program. I have taught four years in middle school; this school term (2010-2011), I will be teaching part time high school computer education in the mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and will be available afternoons. Although Business Education is my certification, I have experience teaching Mathematics, ELA, Science, Reading, and Art in the home and after school. I love to be in the classroom. I love the process of learning. It is important to understand that children learn at different paces and in different ways. It is important for us as instructors to recognize this dynamic. I particularly believe that we have a responsibility to embrace this dynamic and encourage and challenge our students to be their best. I believe in using all of the resources available to the teacher to include theaters, museums and libraries. There are teachable moments everywhere. My job is to find and make use of them.
The importance of education has always been clear to me. I was born into a middle class family without a lot of resources. It became obvious to me that if I desired to pursue higher education I would have to qualify for scholarships and grants. I earned a bachelor degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Radio and Television. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My love of the French language led me to pursue my BA specializing in the language and culture in college. After college I immediately traveled to France on a very generous scholarship from Rotary Foundation. This permitted me to live and study at a very old and prestigious university in Poitiers, France. I also tutored the children of my host family in English to earn a bit of extra money for traveling. I learned Spanish while in the Army for the purpose of intelligence gathering. I was an avid student and easily acquired a high rate of proficiency in both of these languages. It is a pleasure for me to share my knowledge and skill with motivated students.
Since I acquired language using primarily the conversational method, that is my basic approach to teaching. Of course there are the basics of grammar and syntax, style and such, all of which are necessary, but if you cannot ... read more
