A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style involves the student not only in the curriculum but also in the world around them. I enjoy helping students to relate what they have learned to outside the classroom. For example when teaching about a significant event in history, I challenge the student to think about how they would have thought about it in the past and how they can relate it to current events. I am a bi-linual tutor. I have worked for the migrant education program in the federal programs department of the Jonesboro Public School district since August of 2008. Before that I taught ELL courses for Brookland Public Schools. I was adult education tutor for student support services at Arkansas State University and East Arkansas Community College. I have taught two Spanish Courses to high school students for the Arkansas Upward Bound program.

A Little Bit About Me...

As I graduated with an honors bachelor’s degree in Biology, I started working at my university as an academic tutor. Based on the performance of my students, I was further promoted to the “Lead Science Tutor” position where I could share teaching techniques and train incoming tutors as well. I had always been interested in teaching and been a good communicator to people of all age groups. I love helping people and do my best to explain everything in detail. Math and chemistry come easier to me than others, and I understand this. That is why I take my time and do not get frustrated. Anyone can learn; you just have to figure out what is their best learning style and adapt for them to learn. I have always loved helping people, and I feel tutoring is a rewarding process.
I am graduating in May with my BA in Chemistry. I will continue school in the fall in hopes of entering the nursing program. I have helped several students with high school algebra, junior high algebra, as well as college algebra. I have helped non-traditional students not only pass but receive A's and B's in their math classes after not having a math class for 20 or more years. I have helped kids with special needs (such as autism) pass college level courses as well.
