A Little Bit About Me...

My superior at Yavapai College who monitored my classes in order to write his evaluation, remarked once that "...you have the patience of an angel." I don't know whether this is entirely correct since I haven't had a personal encounter with such a heavenly body, but I consider myself to be a kind and patient instructor who also loves for her students to learn. Since each child/adult learns in a different way, I believe that it is important to pay attention to individual learning styles. I am creative, resourceful, and constructive. I believe that praise and making learning fun goes a long way. I have taught German privately and have been impressed how fast my young students have been able to read, write and speak with no prior knowledge.

As an English major and writer/editor with 15 years of experience, I have honed my grammatical, language and communication skills through the written word and verbal expression. With volunteer work at women's shelter's, I read to and helped elementary-age kids learn to read during my time spent with them.
I love being with and teaching children, especially when it comes to reading and books. I find it highly gratifying to see the joy that comes with learning to love to read and the subsequent doors of learning that open as a result. I have worked as a social worker for many years. As a social worker, doing therapy with people is a complicated form of teaching, mentoring, counseling. I a one time for approximately one year taught adults preparing for their GED, or high school diploma. I have worked as a child and family therapist. I also wrote for a newspaper for one year and have many clippings.
