My favorite English teacher in college affected me because he focused on my individual strengths and interests, instead of giving cookie cutter instruction. I believe this is essential in teaching, for every student learns in his own particular way. I tutored for one year at Garden City Community College in College Algebra, English, and History. I attended 15 hours of tutor training. I also have worked with children who have severe emotional disturbance in learning social and cognitive skills, as well as improving their self-confidence levels.
My teaching style is to listen to what the person needs help with, and then to ask them what they already know about the subject. Next, I will show him or her to solve the problem, then ask him or her to try it himself or herself. If he or she has any questions, I will answer them. After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, I determined that I wanted to pursue a teaching career. I enrolled in the Master’s in Elementary Education program at the University of Phoenix.
