I believe that ALL children are capable of learning. It is my responsibility to seek out those methodologies that are most compatible for the children in my care. My administrators usually placed those students who were struggling in my care. I don't believe in using just one "curriculum" but am adept at combining a variety of techniques that will best enable the children find out that they are, indeed, capable of learning! Teaching reading and writing are particular joys to me, as I believe anyone who learns to read has opened up a whole new world. Learning can be fun and relaxed, while achieving the goals necessary for academic success. As an ESL, grades 9-12 teacher, I am very familiar with identifying students' individual strengths and areas in need of support. Every one of my students learns differently. I must design curriculum that can be easily differentiated. This makes me an excellent tutor, because this is what it takes to tutor. As a college student, I tutored many other graduate students that were attaining their degrees in this country and needed to hone their English language skills before returning to their home nations. I enjoy getting to know my students' strengths and areas in need of support, so that I may better facilitate learning in those areas. By learning of their strengths, I have access to their interests, which guide my choice of materials. I believe students are more motivated as learners if information is presented to them in interesting forms.

I thoroughly enjoy working with students, and provide fun yet focused tutoring. I hold a Masters degree in Linguistics, and have teaching experience for students of all ages, in various settings, including as a substitute teacher in public schools, a full-time teacher of ESL at the University of Iowa, an adjunct ESL teacher at Northern Virginia Community College, and ESL/SAT tutor with a private company. I most often teach English, Communications, and Writing skills to students. I am friendly and make students feel very comfortable, and am great at getting them motivated.
