Experience Summary
I thoroughly enjoy working with students, and provide fun yet focused tutoring. I hold a Masters degree in Linguistics, and have teaching experience for students of all ages, in various settings, including as a substitute teacher in public schools, a full-time teacher of ESL at the University of Iowa, an adjunct ESL teacher at Northern Virginia Community College, and ESL/SAT tutor with a private company. I most often teach English, Communications, and Writing skills to students. I am friendly and make students feel very comfortable, and am great at getting them motivated.
Teaching Style
I first like to understand the student's learning style, as we all have different methods of learning. Some are visual, others do better with reading a text, or using examples. I use a variety of methods to teach my students, depending on age. I also want to learn where and why the student is struggling with the subject. I make my tutoring sessions interesting so that I capture the student's attention and thoroughly engage him/her. I am patient, understanding, and considerate of my students, instilling confidence and pride in learning. I believe all students want to succeed, and given the right tools and teaching methods, they can soar!
