A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently attending West Virginia University to attain my Masters Degree in Human Nutrition. While I have been here, I have had the opportunity to tutor other students in various classes such as biology, anatomy, nutrition, communications, sociology, english, and psychology. I am most fit to tutor in science classes, since that is what my major has required for me to have a strong focus in. I am a very dedicated and organized student and am able to use these talents to help other students to learn how to be the same way. While in college, I spent my time home from school substitute teaching through Frederick County Public Schools. After graduation from American University, I continued to substitute and in the fall of 2005 I took a part-time position at a middle school, teaching Theatre Arts and Music Performance Lab. While teaching, I began my teaching certification through the Maryland State Department of Education, where I completed a course called Inclusion: Making it Happen. I also taught dance at Dance Unlimited and Elite Feet Dance studios in addition to working at numerous children's theatre camps throughout Maryland and West Virginia.

A Little Bit About Me...

The guitar has always been my biggest passion, and I have made it my goal to learn as much about it as possible. This search has led me to study classical guitar and music theory formally at the University of Delaware for three years before leaving to study recording in a professional technical environment at the Omega Studios' School. Previously to college, I performed with an original rock group called Society Ills, where I gained experience writing, arranging, recording, and producing our music. I believe that learning through hands-on experience is the best way to fully comprehend material. I want to interest students in academics. To accomplish this, a teacher must show how math, or reading is useful; how anything can be exciting. I want to make learning fun. And I use a variety of tactics to accomplish this.
I recently graduated from Bard College, a selective liberal arts school in New York. I have taken classes in a variety of subjects including biology, french, history, and writing. I recently completed a 90 page thesis. I have excellent critical thinking and writing skills, which have served me well as a student. As a tutor, I strive to engage my students in thinking complexly about the topic at hand. I have experience tutoring middle school aged children in music, math, and writing. I also have experience working with preschool aged children.
