My teaching style adapts to the students current level of knowledge. I always model 2 or 3 problems step by step before asking the student to try a problem. A student is comfortable knowing that I have "their backs" and won't let them be frustrated for long. This gives a student confidence to try problems on their own.
I taught in two public high schools in Orange and Osceola Counties in the Central Florida area for 5 years where I earned the Professional Educators Certificate to teach mathematics 6 - 12. I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. After a few questions have been answered then I am able to help them with the details of problem and a help them build a method for solving similar problems in the future.
I have a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Science and a Minor in Public Health. I worked for USF Housing and Residential Education. I also was a Peer Leader for Chemistry where I was basically a Teaching Assistant and led two sections by myself.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergrad at UCF, I spent time tutoring fellow classmates in english and math classes. I began teaching a student leadership class and continued that while in graduate school. I spent a year in Japan teaching english through a variety of teaching meathods. My master's degree education provided a great deal of technique and methodology in which to tutor students with special needs.
I believe in determining the needs of each specific child. Some students need more structure, while others need more freedom and more creative pathways towards learning. I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. I am currently the Math Coach at a local Middle School. I have been in the educational field for thirteen years as a math teacher. I have taught mathematics on the high school level and the middle school level. I have prepared students for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and I have had great sucess helping students achieve passing scores on this test.
