My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : I am KY and TN state certified in middle school math. I taught developmental math and college math at two year colleges. As a test prep coach, I tutor math on a daily basis. This almost always involves some degree of pre-Algebra as students often need a review of the basics before moving on to more difficult mathematical concepts. I'm great at explaining basic math concepts in multiple ways, so students can fully grasp those concepts.

I prepare students for the ACT and Praxis core and content exams, including the Praxis core (math, reading, and writing), Praxis 5018 (elementary education content knowledge), Praxis 5169 (middle school math), and Praxis 5001 (elementary education multiple subjects). I have always possessed a love of helping others to learn. It brings me great joy to witness when an individual grasps a concept which they have been having difficulty with. I tend to use a demonstrator style of teaching by first working through a problem slowly while asking the student questions to ensure that they understand what I am doing. Then I help them work through similar problems while providing help until they fully grasp a concept.
I have earned both an AS in Science and Mathematics as well as completed all requirements for my BA in business administration with a concentration in accounting. It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught.
