My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : This is a stress response

I have over 30 years experience with Special Education. From 2002 - 2011 I was lead teacher in a Comprehensive Developmental Classroom K-2. It was during that time in my search to be an effective teacher that I found Dr. Svetlana Masgutova PH.D. "MasgutovaMethod.com". As educators we are taught to only look at the brain as the source of intellect, that is, the cortex or higher order thinking part of the brain. My understanding now is that if there is a problem with protection and survival (brain stem) we have to correct that in first order because it is the ultimate foundation for higher order thinking. I have earned my bachelors in Biology which makes me highly qualified to tutor in math and science. While I was in college I tutored students in 3rd-8th grade with math. I also received a Masters degree in Education which helped me learn different ways to teach subjects for higher achievement.
I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. A Little Bit About Me...

During my years as an undergraduate English major, I was drawn to the world of teaching and tutoring through two part-time positions, including one on-campus, with college-aged students, and one with elementary to high school-aged students. I loved seeing my students' pleasure at learning how to comprehend the words they read, to assimilate that information into an in-depth college essay, to finally grasp that one bit of knowledge that so alluded them. I taught students with learning and behavioral disabilities, and was good at my job (and loved it).
