I currently substitute teach Per Diem in several local districts for K-12 students. I also have gained classroom teaching experience through student teaching and field work. I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading.
I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child.

I have a strong belief in a strengh based interview before I ever start teaching/tutoring a student. This gives me an idea of HOW the student learns, which "intelligence" he most readily learns by (from Gardner's Multiple Intelligences). I have had experience in all grades form age 3 to age 17 and have three grown children. My "style" is very science and music based as those are my two strong intelligences which fit beautifully with reading in particular. But, I adapt and teach to the initelligences of my student who may not have the strong base of either science or music interest. I am very capable of determining those strengths through my assessments, obervations, and interviews. My "style" is lovingly firm.
