For writing, usually I conduct some exercises. The level of the critique and what to say depends heavily on the age of the student. For grammar, I would either find or create my own practice materials and we could go over whatever is necessary until I've decided that the student is making improvements or the student has succeeded.

Over the years, I have had the ability to work in various grade levels in various school districts. During my student teaching I had the chance to teach first and fourth grade. After graduating, I subbed in many school districts throughout the Capital Region. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a self-contained classroom serving children between first and third grade. Before earning a BA in Biology at Skidmore College and after graduating high school, I took three years off to play hockey. Concurrently, I enrolled in classes at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and tutored in the math department. I tutored students in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and some calculus. Again, I have learned that all children learn differently and one approach does not work for all. I have several tried and true techniques to guide my son in the learning (in mainly reading and comprehension) and not only help him learn, but to make it an enjoyable experience.
