My comments on tutoring Writing : We have Certified Teachers and Degreed Tutors who specialize in each subject or grade level. Call us to ask about each individual tutor and their credentials. Some of our Certified Teachers are Certified in all subjects of Elementary specifically that includes this.

Each Certified teacher has the ability and skills to individualize the teaching style, based on the child's learning style. Due to this, we offer for the teacher or tutor to do an assessment on the first session at the same fee as the tutorials. Once they do this, they are required to teach or tutor in the style fit to your child's learning and other skills for their potential and to help them reach their academic goals.

I believe the first thing you need to do is to find out what the student needs help with. At times I have used music, poetry, or computer programs to get the students attention. Repetition is very helpful and note cards are good for memorization. Taking notes is a good way for the student to stay focused. A little comedy helps too to help students to remember. I enjoy helping students, adult or younger, feel the success of learning. Sometimes it is a struggle, but it is always fulfilling to see the relief and happiness they feel when they do succeed.
My original degree was in English with a minor in Spanish. I received my teaching certification in 1979 in Secondary English/Spanish. I taught adult ESL part time for 2 years in the evenings. As a person who holds both a BA and MA in English, each with concentrations in writing (creative and technical, respectively), I am qualified to, and have for several years, tutored English language studies skills, including composition, grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehesion, to students from the third grade through college. I have also taught English composition at the college level. I have always loved working with children and I believe I can make a positive difference in childrens' lives. Children learn through seeing, hearing, saying, feeling and doing. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends on the student and subject I'm dealing with. For the non-reading adults I started by teaching them letter recognition and basic sounds; moved on to simple words; then sentances. During my college class I would review the evening's lesson and goals, then have the students perform the exercise in the textbooks. During the practical exercise I made myself available to all the students and gave one-on-one instruction to those that needed it.
I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings.
