I believe that all children are capable of learning, but many experience barriers that inhibit the learning process. My strategy is to identify these barriers, remove them whenever possible, or otherwise embrace them and work within the circumstances to achieve the best possible outcome. My background in counseling and psychology has proven invaluable in the classroom and in collaborating with parents and educators. I am looking into the process of becoming a certified teacher, and will strive to make a difference in your child's life, helping them become more successful and enthusiastic learners.

I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. I am extremely patient and am very willing to take alternative approaches in helping a student learn.
During my undergraduate career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in the fields of math and science. I did this by striving for excellence in the classroom and participating in cutting edge research with professors in the Entomology and Organic Chemistry departments. My extensive knowledge of the subjects I’ve studied has allowed me to assist my friends in understanding complex and difficult problems. This past year I privately tutored classmates in both Statistics and Organic Chemistry.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would best describe my method of teaching as a give and take experience. Through diologue, I am able to lead the student through the thought process that will derive the correct answer. Giving bits of information can provoke a new approach to the task at hand. I also feel it is important to individualize each person being tutored, as everyone learns differently. Some learn best through the use of things such as pnuemonic devices, while others may need repitition to effectivily remember the material. Gaining knowledge is a passion of mine and sharing this information is something I truly enjoy.
My journey through the undergraduate sciences has given me the skills needed to be an effective tutor. Holding a 3.6 GPA, I was able to work with students in group settings, teaching as well as learning. As a member of the chemistry society, we also offered peer tutoring where I was a ... read more

My teaching methods are flexible, as different students require different strategies to be successful. While tutoring, I prefer working through example problems to demonstrate the meaning and application of various concepts. I am patient, and I try to be creative in my approach to explaining difficult material. I engage students as much as possible while helping them, and try to keep lessons interesting and to the point. I love to answer questions, and I think it's important to encourage questions about anything that may be unclear. I am understanding and reasonable, but I think hard work and practice are essential for succeeding in any subject. I hope to help students feel confident in their understanding of the material I cover.

A Little Bit About Me...

Inorganic Chemistry was my favorite class of my academic career. I had fantastic teachers and decided when I had the opportunity to give back to academia, I would teach inorganic chemistry. After I finished my Ph.D I became an adjunct professor at a local community college. I have been teaching chemistry for five years.
The most important aspect of my teaching style is my ability to relax my students. I believe if you are in a relaxed environment, learning becomes easy. Chemistry is a difficult subject for many students and I am successful in giving my students the confidence that they can indeed understand the subject matter.

Following my graduation from the University of Connecticut I pursued a career in the insurance industry but have also spent time working as a youth group leader and worked as a part-time tutor for several years. While living in Connecticut I tutored homebound high school age children who were either out on medical leave or expelled for disciplinary purposes. I am proud to report that in addition to several other students, I provided tutoring for a full course load covering an entire year for one expelled student who improved grades in every course and went on to graduate. I have also created training programs and hired and trained numerous employees in the insurance industry and serve as co-chair for an annual insurance educational conference held in New York City. While my degree is in English, I enjoy and excel in math and other courses as well.
