I love the give and take of interaction with students. My approach is learner-centered, which means that I see each student as an individual and strive to tailor our instructional exchange to meet the needs of each person. I believe that teaching is dialogic; it is through dialogue that instructors and students together engage in the exploration process that leads to learning. I do not ascribe to the "open head, pour in facts" approach to teaching. Rather, I seek to facilitate problem solving, critical thinking, data gathering, and logical analysis that extends the student's knowledge, but more importantly teaches them to learn how to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping people learn English. Have a lot of understanding and compassion of what it means to learn a foreign language, as I have learned two. I have also lived as an expatriate in a foreign country, so I understand a lot of what the expatriate has to go through in a new land. I am used to teaching all types of learners, from slow to fast, and am able to adjust. I love to see people be encouraged and catch on, so I try to guide new concepts around mental roadblocks, and make it easy. I also love to learn new things, and new ways of doing things.
I was a Missionary in Panama for fourteen years. Learned Spanish through a two-year course in the country. As a missionary, I went on to teach Literacy and Bible to indigenous peoples there. A Little Bit About Me...

In my career in automotive plastics, I coached or taught manufacturing principles to improve quality and efficiency. My demonstrated success is due in part to my efforts to educate and coach operators, engineers and managers to understand the basic principles of chemistry, math and engineering to buy into a logical course of action. I have also greatly enjoyed my voluntary participation as a youth football coach. I have coached 8-12 year olds the last 5 years. It is very fulfilling to demonstrate and coach new skills to children to develop an organized team.
I have a BS in chemical engineering. I have 13 years of applying engineering and project management principles in the automotive plastics industry. A key to my success is influencing people by explaining "why" and "how" something should be done to develop partnerships leading to increased cooperation and advocacy.
