Japanese is one of my top subjects! I have studied Japanese since high school and lived in Japan for 1 1/2 years total. My spoken Japanese is colloquial and fluent, and I am also very familiar with formal written and spoken Japanese. I have a wide knowledge of many traditional Japanese arts and Japanese culture as well.

I am very creative and hands on! Route memorization does not work for everybody and I believe in teaching flexibility.
Although I am not a certified teacher of Japanese, I know what it is like to be a student of it. I first went to Japan at the beginning of high school with the American Field Service (AFS). I had never studied Japanese before and I lived in a small town, lived with a family that spoke no English, and attended a Japanese high school for one year. Tutored many students during high school and I am currently a 1st year Chemical Engineering student at University of California, Berkeley. In high school, I tutored AP Chemistry, many levels of math, and many other science courses often. I also worked with younger students in middle school on many of the general subjects.
I prefer one on one tutoring so I can adjust how I tutor to each students needs, but I have also done group tutoring before. All in all, I personally want to work in whatever environment will help the student learn most effectively.

I was raised in Japan till age of 9, so my first language is Japanese. After I came to the United States, I went to Japanese school to keep up my native Japanese skills. (The school I went, Asahi-Gakuen is targeted for students that may go back to Japan. They use same textbook as schools in Japan and almost same pase of teaching)
