Experience Summary
I have studied and spoken Japanese for around 12 years, speaking at an intermediate level. I understand the intricate workings of the grammar and vocabulary and can thoroughly teach how to speak and understand from logically comprehending its inner mechanisms (I.E. thinking in Japanese) which will make speaking easier. It is easier than it sounds, and simple to understand. Since I speak at an intermediate level, I can help tutor elementary and intermediate Japanese with essential foundations like proper pronunciation, particles and essential vocabulary. I am also open to any other questions you may have in the future.
Since I intimately know the Japanese language, I am also capable of teaching English to Japanese speakers as well. As a native English speaker, I can offer help in common confusions in the English language such as pronunciation, definite articles and conjunction. I tutor English through the same process I tutor Japanese, by guiding you through the inner workings so you can think in English before you speak it.
I also have knowledge of Japanese culture and etiquette, which is equally important in your possible endeavors with Japanese. It is important to know the culture to fully understand the context of the speakers subjects from the background of the Japanese thinking process (i.e why and how they are saying what they are saying). For Japanese speakers learning English, I can also teach you about American culture and behavior too.
I've had about a years experience of formal tutoring, but my strongest foundation is the experience in obstacles of learning a foreign Language. Its not as easy as some would hope and takes persistence to learn. I have seen many students drop out of formal studying of my local Japanese class, and I want to prevent other language learners from dropping out by guiding them through what to expect learning a language and help through common pitfalls.
Teaching Style
I have a very by-the-book kind of tutoring style, but my explanations are thorough enough for most people to understand in simple terms. For Japanese, I tutor through Japan Times' 'Genki' textbook set and the following intermediate Japanese textbook. For English for Japanese Speakers, I can retrofit my knowledge of Japanese grammar to explain important points in the English Language to help you sound more fluent.
