I have completed all requirements for a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught mathematics, computer applications, life skills, and other subjects at high school and community college levels in Colorado. I have tutored and homeschooled statistics, college algebra, trigonometry, and other mathematics topics, and homeschooled a complete spectrum of high school level topics.
I believe in interactive teaching, where the student is as involved as the teacher. My satisfaction comes from watching students discover knowledge that they had previously thought unavailable. I would say my teaching method would closely reflect the socratic method. I often work with students asking many questions. I never just give an answer. The questioning serves several purposes: to instruct via reproduction, to instill confidence, and to show my interest and desire for their success. I believe in practice, I teach showing one example, then work through several with guidance to finally watching the transformation take place.
