A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is consistent with that of the Montessori philosophy, i.e. hands-on learning activities providing a concrete basis of knowledge that extends to the abstract. Moreover, I firmly believe that if a love of learning is instilled in the student, there is no challenge too great to overcome. I have always been able to win over a hesitant student or one who lacks confidence by making sure the student experiences some degree of success. Once the student understands that he/she is capable of understanding and applying various concepts, he/she becomes confident enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and ultimately master areas of study, including those that pose the greatest challenges.

After graduating from Flagler, I was immediately offered two teaching positions. I chose to teach at the middle school level and remained there for two years. I enjoyed working with this age group very much. I taught Science the first year and Language Arts the second. Prior to graduating, I worked in the county's Early Intervention program, tutoring to at-risk youths. I did practicums and internships in both middle and high school. I am very interactive with the student and I want them to see me as a friend. I for one do not like to be told what to do and how to do it, that never helps me learn. It is better when you feel you are working towards a common goal with your superior. I want my student to feel free to talk to me about anything, and to enjoy learning the material he or she is struggling with. You simply do not learn as much when you dread coming into the classroom everyday. I like to make games out of the work.
