My comments on tutoring Reading : I am passionate about reading just as I am with Creative Writing and proper pronunciation perhaps because I believe reading allows a person to become fully aware of the word, the root and the origin of the word and how to use the word correctly. I am a constant reader.

My first job right after turning 16 was working as a photographer and journalist for the local newspaper in my hometown. My main job was working with the teen section; GeneratioNext asking questions, taking polls, and writing articles that were teen related to teen issues, college and continuing education, and career goals. Throughout my junior high school and high school years I worked closely with the editor of the school newspaper as a writer, and with the yearbook committee taking classes in journalism and photography. When I started pursuing my associates while enrolled at San Antonio College I took photography classes more for recreation and to hone my hobby and appreciation for photos, editing, and working behind the camera. During my time at International Academy of Design & Technology I have written and submitted several articles to the school based student magazine distributed ... read more

Succeed! Alicia is the best dyslexia tutor.

I love what I do. As an educational psychologist, I use a variety of techniques and tailor programs to suit the student’s learning style and level of proficiency. I have had great success teaching dyslexic students, English and Spanish as second languages, and helping prepare students for standardized tests such as the STAAR, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and TEXES certification exams. I teach reading and writing because I am a good reader and writer, and I know how to help others develop these abilities. I also have a deep understanding of the grammatical structures of two languages, English and Spanish. I can make the most difficult grammatical concepts seem very easy to understand. Reading and writing are fun when you become skilled at them, and with my help, my students get there in no time at all. I do a great job tutoring children. I teach them by playing games, doing fun exercises, wat ... read more

My comments on tutoring Reading : As a promoter of reading (whether it be fiction or non-fiction), I enjoy being in the position to help students with reading. In my experience of helping students with reading, it has been invariably fulfilling during those moments when a student improves their pronunciation or learns a new words! I can base a lesson plan on the student's peculiar needs. For instance, if I see that the student struggles with five-letter words, I can create a list of five words and develop a technique to help them improve their reading. I will use a metronome to help me check the student's improvement. If you have any questions, please, ask!

Also, I teach a beginner ukulele class at a community education center. Through my personal, academic and vocational experiences, I have gained insight about the process of working with people, educationally, musically and through goal setting (counseling and coaching). As a counseling student, I have worked with various populat ... read more

Patient with lots of heart! If you wish to learn I can help

Taught to every age! I was in Europe for 9 years and opened my own American English School. Taught every level from pre-school to Engineers. Also translated and wrote policies and procedures for the European Union REACH program. Taught 3d and 4th grade in Germany. One example: taught English to German elemantary students using the game of baseball to learn new words. My oldest student was 79 years young! The youngest was 4.
Motivation is first. Find out what students skills are and add what they like to encourage learning. Games are always good to encourage all ages to learn. Repetition! Once their grades improve their self confidence will too. Lots of heart and patience!

From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. During the fall semesters, I taught Composition I, which introduced students to a variety of writing concepts, such as the personal essay and the visual text. The students wrote five papers, three to five pages in length, with each paper designed around one of the concepts. For those exercises, I emphasized the importance organization, grammar, and syntax rather than content. During the spring semesters, I taught Composition II, which required the students to develop critical reading and thinking skills as a progression toward a final research paper. The students prepared two papers covering assigned works of anthologized ... read more

Master's Student- Language, Computers, Resume Writing, etc.

My tutoring experiences have taken on many shapes and sizes. I've tutored on subjects ranging business resume writing, college application essays, editing the written content of a PowerPoint presentation and much more. My initial foray into the tutoring sphere, so to speak began when I was brought on as a High School volunteer to lead residents of a retirement home toward a better future in computer literacy. It was there that I worked hand-to-hand with devoted residents on a weekly basis to sharpen their skills on how to navigate the web, begin using different applications, so as to produce written documents, email friends, family and/or previous work acquaintances and begin to discover the utility that the modern-day computer has. Moving off of that, in my years as a student matriculating toward a Bachelor's degree, I tutored various family members. Namely, I was responsible for ed ... read more

I recently graduated from the University of Texas double majoring in History and Biology. I have worked as a biology teacher for a freshman year biology course. My specialty was marine biology, and I have lots of experience in field and laboratory research, which has influenced my love for science. History started as a hobby and turned into a passion of mine.
My teaching style is very energetic and I love participation by the students. I think students can learn better through experiencing the information rather than just hearing it.
