My comments on tutoring Math : I will assist students with 1st -8th grade math. I understand Math struggles from many different angles including home experiences.I am patient.

Teaching is an art not a task. Never too late to learn.

I have been teaching in public school since 1997. I have been teaching Arabic for 5 years. Arabic is my first language. I have thought in private and public school. I thought Arabic and math to young children and to teenagers. I am currently working in public school teaching math to struggling students and on the weekend I work as Arabic teacher at non profit organization.
My teaching style is more engaging and less papers and pencils. I work with my students on plan we designed together based on the needs and their goals. My comments on tutoring Math : I have always followed the use of math in my daily life. The importance of making budgets, knowing how much is in one's checkbook, or finding funds to make a new product. Those skills are the basis of being prepared for improving your life.

My teaching style needs to respond to the needs of the individual. There are several styles of learning so I need to understand the individual to best know how to teach them the skills they need to pass the course.
I have worked in several different types of industries from hotels, restaurants, travel, mortgage companies, transportation, banks, theater, real estate and other primarily service businesses. Most of my interests lie in the financial and accounting parts of these businesses because of the importance of not only being able to present an accurate picture of the company's condition at only one time, but also to make sure that there were no mistakes, thefts being covered up, or other discrepancies. Very large companies have had loans go bad due to the improper accounting of transactions by the business owners.

A Little Bit About Me...

The following are two of my favorite experiences with math tutoring. One high school sophomore was making a D in geometry and needed help studying for her first semester final exam. After I worked with her for only three hours she missed making a B by one percentage point and never made less than a B on any subsequent quizzes or tests under my tutelage. Another middle school girl actually cried when she first had to work with the concept of estimating. In this case I set aside the prescribed materials, created several new estimating concepts and within fifteen minutes she was laughing and suggesting additional estimation applications with the new materials. I believe my success in these instances was because of my ability to bring life to the topic and to read the intellectual and emotional state of my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

On the survey sheets that I've seen, I'm often praised for being very patient with students and very respectful of the students, no matter what their level of understanding. I typically spend very little time in verbal explanation, but a lot of time if running through examples with students so they can see the patterns for themselves... practice makes perfect.
I've found that I really enjoy teaching students, especially those who are struggling, because of the satisfaction that comes with seeing the light come on. I've had many students explain to me that my class is the first one that they've done well and actually understand the concepts. I've taught Project Management for the University of Phoenix in the past, but I especially enjoy teaching math at Pima College... Statistics and the various levels of Algebra.

I am very patient and detailed teacher. I go step by step when trying to teach a child how to do something. I don't skip steps. If they still don't understand, I don't go on to the next part of the lesson. I make sure they know and understand how to do the first part before I go onto the second part. Also I make things as simple as possible, complexing a subject doesn't do any good when it comes to teaching.
