A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergraduate, I had multiple field studies in middle and high school classes. I also had to tutor elementary students through my college for certain reading classes. During my last semester, I filled a permanent substitute position for 7th grade intensive reading. In the 2022-2023 school year, I taught STEM language arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Qualifed in this subject by WyzAnt. In addition to my 10 years of substitute teaching, I worked from December 2011 through April 2012 with A Quantum Leap which offers in home and in school instruction to students under the SES program.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. My comments on tutoring Reading : Is my best subject and I teach it phonetically. I believe that sounding out the words is the easiest way for comprehension. Certain rules must be applied though for words that sound the same.

I tutored kids who were lagging behind the rest of the class at school as well as advanced language learners and helped them get ready for regional language contests. One of my achievements I believe is my excellent work with high school seniors to prepare for centralized testing. But the experience I value most is when my students who were performing about average gradually integrated into the rest of the class. After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
