A Little Bit About Me...

I was a Teaching Assistant for one semester of Physical Chemistry at the University of Utah. This is literally the most difficult course in the Chemistry department for undergraduates. I was responsible for 6X 1 hour sessions per week over the course of a semester. I also would handle questions outside of class.
I think largely the greatest barrier to learning is a background context for the material. Many adults are still scared of Algebra because of some past experience as a kid. I first address the pupil's concerns and history with the subject. My commitment is to create a relaxing and enjoyable environment. Next I find the best way that the student learns. I think the most important part of instruction is to give the student a framework for learning. I help them solve problems by asking leading questions so that they can develop the intuition for solving problems on their own, of course introducing and explaining basic concepts when necessary. Along the way, I explain insights, tricks, and tools that I use to solve problems. I constantly emphasize and repeat these insights, tools, and tricks until the student remembers them.
