I enjoy helping people learn something new. I think anyone can do anything they put their mind to. I would allow the student time to get to know me so they would feel comfortable with me. Students sometimes feel too vulnerable to try things when they don't know someone because they do not want to make mistakes. I would let them know that the only way to get better at something is to make mistakes so they can learn from those mistakes by making the appropriate corrections. Confidence is key. I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communicate with clearity. I have one year of tutoring experience at the k-12 level. It's true that every student learns at a different pace with a different style. I like to see myself as a cameleon teacher, catering my format to individual needs.
