Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim

I encourage higher order thinking, and help students learn to become self-directed and independent. Not only will your child develop greater skills and knowledge in each discipline, he/she will develop many specific thinking strategies and skills which they will apply in the classroom and throughout life. My mottos is, "Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim." I believe in making learning exciting, and especially in helping children learn to believe in themselves as successful learners. I have high expectations, and I provide the support they need in order to meet those expectations. It does not take long for a student to realize that they really are smart, then they are ready to take on greater challenges with confidence.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Science : If you need someone to develop a Science curriculum, I would love to help you! I believe in hands on projects for Science! My method is great for homeschoolers or even virtual learners or need more excitement in Science.

If your child struggles in reading or math I am here to help

I have volunteered in a school district for just over 3 years and when I do volunteer I assist children in the classroom who have problems in their reading and math. By assisting these students they have improved on their tests as well as gaining confidence in their learning. I work really well one on one with the child who needs such assistance but also in small groups. If needed to assist a child online it can be done as long as there are materials available for the child that is provided by the school.

Bilingual, Spanish/English, Tutor

I am responsible for professional development of teachers seeking ESL certification, train principals on bilingual/ESL requirements and work as an instructional coach to teachers. In addition, I provide English classes for adults in my district. In order to aid my teachers and help them keep up with the changing needs of our students, I am always researching for the most updated information in order for them to be knowledgeable on what is going on outside the school. It is important to me that I provide teachers, students and partners the best education possible.
My style is hands on and practical. I feel it is important for my students to understand how they can apply what they learn to real life and teach them how to problem solve when they are in difficult situations. In addition, I am very personable and I work hard to help my student achieve their goals.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Science : I've studied science throughout my entire academic career.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the ... read more

Elementary School Tutor (2nd grade teacher)

It is my opinion that every child has the ability to learn and be successful, but not every child is going to do that in the same way. I strive to provide all students with a safe and respectful learning environment where their thoughts and creativity are honored and cultivated. I have a genuine interest in the well-being of all students, and want to inspire them to become lifelong learners and problem solvers.
I have been working with children for about 4 years. I am currently working on my Masters in Elementary Education, and am a 2nd grade teacher in Austin. This is my first year of teaching. I was an intern in a kindergarten classroom, and student taught in 3rd grade. My resume is available upon request.

I prefer a very laid back, informal environment when I teach. I can adapt very easily, and only require that my students respect me and try their best. I can help them with the rest
I have tutored over 50 children and teens, ages 3-14, in various subjects. With my youngest students, I have helped them improve their reading comprehension and ability markedly. I find that talking and reasoning through a problem or situation is the best way to commit information to long term memory. I do this by drawing pictures/maps/diagrams, posing related questions, and drawing on current knowledge to create more connections to what is being studied.
While working on my Bachelor's Degree at A&M I tutored students in various fields such as Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Bacterial Physiology and Genetics, Ancient Greek, and Clarinet. I also have teaching experience from my time as an assistant instructor at a martial arts school where I aided and held classes in Youth and Adult Brazilian JiuJitsu, Karate and Krav Maga.

Vastly experienced, encouraging and patient tutor.

To teach reading, I teach the children to use all the reading strategies used by good readers.Examples of those strategies would be sight words, visual and context clues, and phonics. Then, I prefer to use leveled readers to improve their fluency and comprehension. For writing, after assessing their composition, I work with them to improve where needed skills such as organization, elaboration, complex sentences and transitions. I use hands on materials and lots of practice to teach math.
I taught grades kindergarten, first grade and second grade for a total of twenty-six years. Since then, I have tutored pre-k through 5th grade. My last assignment was tutoring a fifth grader in writing composition. I have worked as a tutor with several children on their reading, spelling and math skills. I worked as a UIL coach for creative writers in second grade.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Science : Science is such a fun subject to learn and to teach. I once had a public school class that had to learn about the 5 senses. I was to teach them about how each could affect the others. I brought in a potato, an onion and a knife. After making sure nobody had any allergies to either the potato or onion, the students set about to being awed their teacher had a pocket knife in class. Then I set to work. I cut a few pieces off of each. I called a volunteer up and had them smell the onion, showing it to the class, then popped the potato in their mouth. Again showing it to the class. I asked what they just ate. They were spitting it out as they said "onion" The class was roaring with laughter and begging to be next. I should have taken in 2 of each of the onions and potatoes because I went through them very quickly with all of the volunteers. The kids got the point and had a great time at the same time. A lesson doesn't have to be a boring lecture. Students should enjoy learning to create a love of learning that will last for a life time.

3 years experience as an educator in the Copperas Cove Independent School District. 2 years experience working independently as a tutor in all core courses with grades pre-K through 6th grade. I have taught all ranges of students, including special education students with ADHD and both high functioning autism and retardation. In the public school setting the special education classes were all taught together as one. However I have tutored them on a one on one basis more effectively. Just like every other student, they need individual attention to retain what they are taught and have their own learning style that can only be found in a personal tutor that understands their behavior and learning needs. I have that experience and knowledge.
Creative teaching for a life time love of learning. I gather everything at my disposal to work with my students and teach to their particular ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach to the child and motivate them to do better through their natural desires to achieve and to seek approval. I believe in postive reinforcement that is linked to realistic and attainable goals. Building relationship with children and their families is the best tool I know for helping children learn. I see children as a part of the greater systems of family and community. I believe it truly takes a village to raise children and that cooperation among the adults that impact them the most- family, including all members of the extended family, teachers, friends, religious and other community leaders - ensures a child's success. It is my goal to make a positive difference in every child's life.

While pursuing my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, I volunteered my time at the Boys and Girls Club of America and tutored students of all ages in reading, math, science, and social studies. I am currently completing an alternative certification program for Texas teacher certification, and I am highly qualified to teach early childhood to sixth grade.
Every child can learn, it just takes a good teacher to help make that happen. A teacher must assess each student for their learning style, ability, and readiness. I want to get to know my students so that I can better understand what motivates them to succeed and develop positive relationships. I care about all students and want to make a difference.
