A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching English since 1974. My experience is in teaching learning disabled, accelerated, and students in the middle range. I have taught grades 6-12 along with adult education. I have tutored for the state of Indiana. I have taught literature, traditional grammar, writing, speech during my forty years as a teacher. I have chaired the English department in one of the middle schools where I worked. This is the extent of my experience for this.

I am a retired Special Education teacher. I was employed by Madison Consolidated Schools until this past June. The first 24 years of teaching was in an elementary school with experience in grades 1 - 6. I then moved to the Junior High School for the last nine years of my career. I have found that if a child is having trouble in a given subject, the first thing a teacher needs to do is access the child’s learning style. All children learn differently and if a child is having problems it is often because the information has only been presented one way. Therefore the material needs to be presented in various ways until the student learns it by which ever method works best for them. I get excited by helping children and adults learn and find it exciting to try to figure out why a student has not learned the subject area he/she is asking for help in.
