I am in the Education field to make a difference in student’s lives. I hope to do this through instruction and example. I believe these two elements intertwined and essential for any educator. I am value the “Teacher as facilitator” education model. Today, I classify my teaching style as a constructivist theory with humanist elements. One thing I have learned in my many years as a tutor is that each student is unique. I try to be flexible in my approach. With grammar and mechanics, I have found that a directive manner is often the best approach; sometimes, however, students require clarification of ideas and organization, in which case I pose questions and share observations, rather than instruct. With reading assignments, clarification of thesis, organization, and vocabulary are usually most helpful. Overall, I try to be as student-centered as possible in my approach to tutoring, without sacrificing a commitment to high quality instruction.
